Blue Bear Women Fall At Lincoln 55-52

LINCOLN, PA – The Blue Bear women's basketball team fell on the road Monday evening to the Lincoln University Lions 55-52.

 

Senior guard Kayler McBride led the Blue Bears with 12 points and also pulled down six boards.  Junior guard Rashida Elbourne had fell just shy of a double-double as she scored nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

 

The Lions got out to the early lead over the Blue Bears.  Lincoln jumped out to a 6-0 lead before Rashida Elbourne got the Blue Bears on the board at the 17:10 mark and Lincoln increased their lead to double digits at 13-2.  Livingstone progressively decreased the Lion lead and trailed by five with just over eight minutes to play in the first half.

 

Freshman guard Kelcyn Manurs got the Blue Bears within one following two free throws with 5:58 left, but Lincoln came back and knocked down a three-pointer to put the Lions back up four.  Late in the first half, free throws greatly aided the Blue Bear comeback as they went 14-for-18 from the free throw line in the first half.  Freshman guard Endia Hill converted a three-point play with 1:30 on the clock to tied the game at 28-28.  Livingstone got their first lead of the game with two seconds in the first half as Elbourne hit two free throws to put Livingstone up 30-28.

 

Hill and McBride led the Blue Bears with eight points each in the first half.  Elbourne grabbed five boards to go along with three points and McBride also pulled down four rebounds. 

 

The teams traded buckets early in the second half, but Lincoln eked out an early 40-37 lead and pushed it to five points at 42-37.  The Blue Bears battled back to go on a 12-1 run to grab a six-point edge at 49-43.  Lincoln responded with a 6-0 run of their own to tie the game at 49-49.

 

Livingstone went back up by three at 52-49 behind a McBride three-pointer, but the Lions took the next five points to go up 54-52, a lead that they would not relinquish.  Livingstone had chances to tie the game with under 30 seconds to go as they trailed by three, but shots fell just short in the waning seconds and Lincoln won the game 55-52.

 

Livingstone has one more game on the schedule prior to holiday break as they will play at Catawba at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 5.
